Severe Weather Policy & Procedures

Message from the Provost

Now that winter is upon us, I want to share information with you about our policies and procedures during snow or other severe weather.

We take decisions regarding closures or delays very seriously. We watch the local news, monitor the weather forecasts from the National Weather Service and consult with local agencies and our own police force to check on road conditions and other potential hazards. We also check with our physical plant department to make sure our parking lots and sidewalks will be safe.

Still, these decisions often must be made based on our best guess about what is coming. It is an inexact science.

While we provide information through a variety of measures, the most thorough information will be on the web at louisville.edu and at louisville.edu/uofltoday. Information will be posted on these sites before any other location.

I also recommend that all students, faculty and staff sign up for UofL Alerts. These text messages are sent directly to your phone and save you the trouble of searching for the information.

Our goal, as always, is to continue to provide an outstanding educational experience while working to ensure everyone’s safety.
