As flu season advances, we are almost certain to see many cases at the University of Louisville. We are doing everything we can to prepare. At this point, our primary focus is to reduce infection and provide support for those who are ill.

Update, Nov. 17, 2009

Starting today, about 400 doses of the H1N1 flu mist vaccine is available to the campus community on a first come, first served basis. Faculty, staff and students can get the vaccine at Campus Health Services on either the Belknap or HSC campus. This is the flu mist only--Campus Health does not have any of the injectable vaccine. Consent forms are available at Campus Health. The H1N1 flu mist vaccine is NOT appropriate for those with asthma, age 50 or older or pregnant.

Update: Nov. 11, 2009

UofL’s Campus Health Services will be offering the free 2009 H1N1 flu mist to students on Monday, Nov. 16, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Student Activities Center, Multipurpose Room. About 950 doses (flu mist only) are available and will be given out on a first come, first served basis. Read more »

Update: Nov. 11, 2009

According to Campus Health Services, 16 students with influenza-like symptoms were seen at the clinic or given medical counsel by phone during the week of November 2.

Update: Nov. 5, 2009

Traffic is expected to be very heavy near Papa John's Cardinal Stadium on Nov. 11 and 12 due to the city's H1N1 vaccination event. If you park in Green Lot A, you will need to exit that lot by going under Central Avenue (toward the stadium). See map (PDF).

Update: Nov. 4, 2009

The Louisville Metro Department of Public Health and Wellness has announced that it will hold a public immunization event for 2009 H1N1 flu. Vaccinations will be given to certain high risk groups. The clinic will be held just south of Papa John's Cardinal Stadium in Green Lot B-D (this is south of Central Avenue). Update: Nov. 4, 2009

According to Campus Health Services, seven students with influenza-like symptoms were seen at the clinic or given medical counsel by phone during the week of Oct. 26.

Update: Oct 30, 2009

A limited supply of the 2009 H1N1 vaccine will be available Nov. 2 to faculty, staff and students who fall under the CDC’s guidelines as a “priority group.” More information »

Update: Oct. 27, 2009, 12 p.m.

According to Campus Health Services, 23 students with influenza-like symptoms were either seen at the clinic or given medical counsel by phone during the week of Oct. 19. (This number is substantially higher than previous weeks because we are now including students who called in to Campus Health Services and reported flu-like symptoms.)

Update: Oct. 22, 2009, 12 p.m.

A letter to the campus community was issued today with an update on the H1N1 vaccine and the university’s ongoing flu prevention preparations.

Update: Oct. 21, 2009, 2 p.m.

According to Campus Health Services, 6 students reported having an influenza-like illness during the week of Oct. 12.

Update: Oct. 12, 2009, 1 p.m.

According to Campus Health Services, 9 students reported having an influenza-like illness during the week of Oct. 5.

Update: Oct. 7, 2009, 2 p.m.

According to Campus Health Services, 11 students reported having an influenza-like illness during the week of Sept. 28.

 

Update: Sept. 29, 2009, 12 p.m.

Campus Health Services is now providing a weekly count of students on the Belknap and Health Sciences campuses who are reporting influenza-like illnesses. Last week there were 11 reported flu-like cases.

Bear in mind that individuals with a “flu like illness” may or may not have the 2009 H1N1 virus. Also, many students who are ill do not seek treatment on campus. As such, the weekly count provided by Campus Health Services is meant to serve only as a barometer of student illnesses on campus, not an exact count.

If you have flu-like symptoms, please follow the CDC's guidelines for self-isolation (avoiding contact with others) and understand when your symptoms may warrant medical attention.
