The University of Louisville Women's Center MOM Support Group had a clothing giveaway Tuesday, Dec. 7, for UofL parents and student-parents from Jefferson Community College.

Brittney Smith, a student worker at the Women's Center, refolds clothes.

"We see a lot of people struggling," said Phyllis Webb, program coordinator for the Women's Center. "We wanted to do something to help them."

The group collected gently used clothing for newborns up to teens in October and November. UofL faculty and staff, as well as an area church, filled boxes with their donations. UofL's Fraternal Order of Police also gave stuffed animals for parents to take home to their children.

Parents stopped by the gym in Dougherty Hall throughout the day to pick up items for their little ones.

Brittney Smith, a student worker at the Women's Center, said she was pleased to be part of the project.

"I know how much money these items would cost," Smith said, as she refolded clothes on the table in the early afternoon. "I hope this helps some of these parents this winter."

UofL student Keyotta Edwards stopped by looking for clothes for her son and daughter, ages 6 and 3. She was especially looking for some hoodies and sweatshirts the kids could wear during winter.

"It’s a big help," she said of the giveaway. "The kids grow so fast."
