Building to be named after former president Shumaker in Nov. 23 event
The University of Louisville will have a dedication ceremony Nov. 23 to rename the Belknap Research Building after John Shumaker, UofL president from 1995 to 2002.
The building will be renamed the Shumaker Research Building at a 2 p.m. ceremony in the building’s lobby. The event is open to the public.
"It seems appropriate to have a building on our campus named in honor of John Shumaker," said UofL President James Ramsey. "He boosted UofL's national reputation for academic excellence and was one of Kentucky's most enthusiastic supporters for higher education reform."
The public should park in the green permit lot on Third Street between Eastern Parkway and Winkler Avenue. A shuttle service will run continuously from the lot to the event.
Shumaker also will participate in a symposium discussion titled "Importance of Higher Education in the Stabilization of Democracy," Nov. 24 at 3 p.m. in the Chao Auditorium, Ekstrom Library. The discussion panel also will include UofL faculty members and an academic delegation from Pakistan.
