Tickets on sale for joint UofL, Polish, Czech production of ‘Don Giovanni’
An international cast will bring Mozart’s “Don Giovanni” to Louisville from sold-out performances in Poland and the Czech Republic.
Shows are scheduled for Jan. 24 at 8 p.m. and Jan. 26 at 2 p.m. at Brown Theatre, 315 W. Broadway.
Tickets are on sale through the Kentucky Center box office. Prices are $20 for the general public and $10 for area students. University of Louisville students, faculty and staff can attend free of charge by showing their UofL ID at the box office.
Mozart’s masterpiece, based on the fictional character Don Juan, is the second joint production by students from UofL’s School of Music and the Karol Szymanowski Academy of Music in Katowice, Poland. The schools have a decade-long faculty/student exchange and partnered in 2007 to produce “Figaro.” Students from the Janacek Conservatory in Ostrava, Czech Republic, are joining them for “Don Giovanni.”
The Szymanowski Academy is producing the opera with a cast of students from each institution. UofL students will spend part of November and December in Poland and the Czech Republic for rehearsals and already-sold-out performances there. The European students will come to Louisville for the January performance.
“This is a monumental undertaking,” said Michael Ramach, co-director of UofL’s opera theatre program.
