Historian to talk about new book 'Hanoi's War'

by UofL Today last modified Sep 18, 2012 02:59 PM

Historian Lien-Hang Nguyen will discuss her recent book and answer questions during a free, public talk Sept. 27 at the University of Louisville.

An associate professor of history at the University of Kentucky, Nguyen used never-seen archival materials from the Vietnam Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other archives around the world in writing her recently published “Hanoi’s War: An International History of the War for Peace in Vietnam.”

In it, she examines the international context of the war and looks at the politics of warfare and peacemaking from the perspectives of North Vietnam, South Vietnam, the Soviet Union, China and the United States.

Nguyen will speak at 6:30 p.m. in the University Club on Belknap Campus and sign copies of her book.

Event sponsors include UofL’s Asian studies program and its Friends of Asian Studies group, the Kentuckiana Asian Studies Network and representatives of the local Vietnamese community.
