Faculty, staff, students invited to local food info fair
The University of Louisville wants to make it easier for faculty, staff and students to eat locally grown foods.
For the second straight year, the university has organized a community supported agriculture (CSA) information fair for people at the university. It is scheduled for April 1 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Bigelow Hall, Miller Information Technology Center, Belknap Campus.
People who attend can meet local farmers, learn about their crops and sign up to receive weekly food baskets from the farmers throughout the growing season. Those who subscribe will be able to pick up their food baskets at designated drop-off points on campus, said Mitchell Payne, associate vice president for business affairs.
CSA subscriptions are between the customer and the farmer. Last year, more than 100 people subscribed to a CSA that delivered on campus.
UofL is giving its employees and students a chance to connect with farmers because the CSA concept fits within the scope of two university strategic goals: increasing sustainable practices on campus and helping employees improve their health, Payne said.
Shuttle service will run from the Preston Street stop at the Health Sciences Center on the hour, 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Return from Belknap will be at the 3/4 hour, 10:45 a.m.-12:45 p.m., with the last shuttle returning at 2 p.m.
