Council on Postsecondary Education members visit campus

University of Louisville President James Ramsey said he thinks Kentucky Council on Postsecondary Education members were "blown away" by the breadth of UofL's research, economic development and community engagement.

CPE members were on campus May 20-21 as the university played host to a CPE meeting at the new, $143 million Clinical and Translational Research building.

Ramsey and others gave several presentations to CPE members and took them on a tour of the university.

During one presentation, Ramsey told CPE members how UofL has made great strides in attracting quality students, graduating them and providing opportunities for ground-breaking research despite a sour economy and nine state budget cuts in nine years.

Provost Shirley Willihnganz joined Jefferson Community and Technical College President Tony Newberry in explaining how the two schools are working hand-in-hand to help JCTC students easily transfer their credits to UofL.

Ramsey and Willihnganz also led CPE members on a tour of UofL's Health Sciences Center and Belknap Campus.

Board members indicated they were impressed by the downtown research and medical complex and expressed surprise at the sight of new student housing, building renovations and the tree-covered grounds of Belknap Campus.
