Ceramic artists offer wares in annual sale

by UofL Today last modified Nov 16, 2012 01:02 PM

UofL ceramic arts students and faculty members will sell their creations Nov. 30–Dec. 1 — just in time for holiday giving or for a special self-treat.

“The pieces are produced on an array of firing techniques on the studio’s wood, soda, gas reduction and electric kilns,” said Jennie DiBeneditto, a recent fine arts graduate, whose work will be included. “We have unique handcrafted art to fit any budget along with one-of-a-kind showstoppers for your home.”

Many of the functional items, such as plates, bowls, mugs and other tableware, will be priced in the $10- to $30-range. Sculptural pieces, such as large vases, serving bowls and platters, will be priced higher.

The sale will be in ceramics studio, room 136 of the Studio Arts Building, 2314 S. Floyd St. at the intersection of Floyd and Warnock streets. Hours are 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Nov. 30 and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Dec. 1.

Sale proceeds from the annual event help the UofL Hite Art Institute’s Ceramics Art Organization and support student travel to art conferences and free public workshops with nationally recognized visiting artists. The sale also gives students an opportunity to gain insight into the business side of art.

On Nov. 30, off-campus sale-goers can park without a pass at Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium and take the university shuttle to the Studio Arts Building. On Dec. 1, shoppers can park in the blue permit lot between the building and the Eastern Parkway overpass.

UofL Dining services will provide free coffee and pastries both days.
