Campus tuition forums set for April 4, 6
University of Louisville Vice President for Finance Mike Curtin will give presentations on the tuition-setting process and solicit input from the campus community at forums April 4 and 6.
Curtin said he plans to talk about the challenges UofL faces with rising costs and continued proposed reductions in state funding (12 cuts in 12 years), outline the tuition and fee-setting process, and talk about other factors that will influence the decision on 2011-12 tuition rates and fees.
He also will talk about the proposed rates.
The Kentucky Council on Postsecondary Education sets requirements for resident undergraduate tuition and mandatory fees, he said, but it gives greater discretion for other tuition rates, such as those for professional programs or non-resident undergraduates.
The CPE plans to issue its guidelines on tuition and fees to the public universities after its April board meeting, Curtin added.
The UofL forums are a regular part of the annual tuition-setting process. That process also includes consultation with and input from the Student Government Association, vice presidents and deans, the Faculty and Staff senates, the Task Force on Tuition and Fee Setting and the Budget Advisory Committee.
Proposed rates go through an approval process that includes presentation to and voting by the UofL Board of Trustees in May. The CPE review comes in June.
The HSC tuition forum will be in Room 101, Instructional Building B, noon, Monday, April 4.
