A true worker owned co-operative is one owned and managed democratically by the employees, providing each worker one share and one vote.

Professor Carmen Huertas-Noble is the founding director of the Community & Economic Development Clinic (CEDC) at CUNY School of Law and was involved with creating the well-known Manhattan restaurant COLORS, a co-op formed by Restaurant Opportunities Center of New York (ROC-NY). The co-op serves a community of low-wage, mostly immigrant workers and plays a critical role in community empowerment.

Huertas-Noble and Brandeis School of Law Professor Ariana Levinson will discuss COLORS and other worker co-op projects and explain the advantages of these groups, including economic benefits to members, engagement of workers and keeping money in the local community.

Presented by the Brandeis School of Law Diversity Committee.

A free, light lunch will be provided at 11:30 a.m.
