Two UofL Students Win the Spring 2015 Gilman Scholarship!
Jay Patel and George Kirchner are two UofL undergraduates who have been awarded the prestigious Benjamin A. Gilman Study scholarship for the Spring 2015 semester. The scholarship aims to diversify underrepresented students and locations in studying abroad, and only Pell Grant recipients are eligible to apply. Patel will be studying abroad on a semester long program to Florianópolis, Brazil. Patel says "What drew me to Brazil and Flórianopolis in particular, was the chance to live amongst a culture that is completely different than any I have experienced. Sure, the beaches and weather are some of the best in the world, but nothing can surpass the kind and welcoming people that are part of the Floripa community." Kirchner will be attending the Norwegian School of Economics in Bergen, Norway. Kirchner decided to study abroad to experience other cultures and to challenge himself in his own values and cultural views.
