Study Abroad in Japan: Bridging Scholarships Application Open

The Bridging Scholarship program is accepting applications from American students participating in study abroad programs in Japan that begin in Fall 2021. Undergraduate students majoring in any field of study and attending any recognized credit-bearing program in Japan are eligible to apply for these scholarships.

Recipients of Bridging Scholarships will receive stipends of $2,500 or $4,000-$4,500, depending on the length of their study program in Japan.

Fall 2021 study programs are those beginning between August and October 2021 and continuing for at least three months, for a semester or for the 2021-22 academic year. (Students studying in Japan during only the Spring 2022 semester should apply beginning in August 2021.)

** Please note: Scholarships will only be awarded if/when study abroad in Japan resumes. Students who are awarded grants for Fall 2021 departures who are unable to study abroad due to COVID-related cancellations may be able to defer to the Spring 2022 semester, pending approval from the Bridging Foundation Board. In such cases, academic-year grants will convert to one-semester grants. **

The deadline for applications for Fall 2021 Bridging scholarships is April 16, 2021. Selection will be based on academic potential and financial need.
