Offices across campus are working together to support our students in every way we can at this difficult time. Please visit the UofL novel coronavirus site for the latest information on the university’s reponse to COVID-19.

This page will be updated as new information becomes available, and you're encouraged to check the direct links to the websites listed with each of the campus offices for more details and the most up-to-date information. If you hear of a resource we should add to this list, or you find outdated info, please let us know at succeed@louisville.edu.

SUPPORTING REMOTE LEARNING

  • Pass/Fail Policy for Spring 2020 Courses: To help you take on the challenges of this semester, effective immediately, all undergraduate and graduate students will be permitted to convert any of their courses to pass/fail grading. What are some key things to know about this?
    • This is optional, and you can choose to convert courses to pass/fail on a course by course basis.
    • You have until the last day of class (April 21 for regular semester courses) to make this decision. The procedure for this is in the works.
    • Talk to your advisor or faculty mentor before making a final decision. Review this chart of questions to consider.
    • Read the Pass/Fail Policy for Spring 2020 Courses for details. The School of Medicine has also issued a School of Medicine Spring 2020 Course policy to guide med school applicants.
  • Creating a Study Group in MS Teams: Teams is free through UofL's Microsoft 365 suite. This step by step guide will help you create a study group and launch a study session.
  • Adjusting Study Habits for Remote Learning: Making a plan and adjusting your studying may help you feel more in control. Use this resource as a starting point.
  • Tips & Tools for Remote Learning: Check out these student success tips for adjusting to new learning and living environments. Get ideas for managing your online coursework, managing your time, communicating needs/expectations/boundaries with family and employers, and more.
  • Disability Resource Center: Staff are working remotely and available via phone or email 8am-5pm, Monday-Friday.  Any students in need of disability-related accommodations or who have questions about how their accommodations may apply in the online environment can contact the DRC.
  • REACH Online Tutoring: REACH academic support services have moved entirely online. Find out what's available and how to access it here.
  • Tech Support: The UofL HelpDesk knows that your technology struggle may have suddenly gotten real. Look here to find out more about extended hours from March 16-22 as well as the various ways to contact HelpDesk staff for support.
  • UofL Libraries: Libraries and computer labs will still be open on campus for access to Wi-Fi and other services (please practice social distancing). Check online for updated hours. Bring your student ID to show at entry.
  • Writing Center: The Center is offering only online appointments in which you upload a draft and receive an email with written feedback in response. Get more information and schedule an appointment here.
  • FREE Wi-Fi:
    • Charter is offering free Spectrum broadband and Wi-Fi access for 60 days to college students who do not already have a Spectrum broadband subscription. To enroll call 1-844-488-8395. Click here for more info.
    • All KCTCS Colleges have some access to KCTCS Guest wifi access in parking lots with the only exception of Big Sandy Community and Technical College in Prestonsburg and its affiliated campuses. Colleges are purchasing equipment to increase availability, and all 16 Colleges should provide some service strength via KCTSC Guest as of April 6, 2020.  Check for KCTCS main campus street locations and information on the other campuses. Wifi access is most likely on the main campus.
  • FREE Course Texts for Remote Access: If you relied on the Library's course reserves for your textbooks, there are now free, remote options that might have what you need.
    • The UofL Bookstore, via RedShelf eBooks, is providing access to up to 7 free eBooks from participating publishers. You can search by title and ISBN at the RedShelf website.
    • A company called VitalSource has partnered with several textbook publishers to provide free access to texts until May 25th. For access, click the link below, create a profile using your UofL email, then download the app for your preferred operating system. Once in the app, you can click the “explore” option and search for your textbook. You'll then have the option to “borrow” the text online until May 25th. Open VitalSource here.

FINANCIALS - UofL OFFICES

  • Pro-rated accounts: The university is working to pro-rate housing and meal plan dollars per the guidelines below:
    • Residential students who do move out of UofL campus residence halls and have no outstanding balances may have a pro-rated portion of their housing costs and meal plan dining dollars credited to the fall semester in the 2020-2021 school year. The credit may go toward housing, dining, or tuition and fees. Final credit amounts will be dependent upon the individual student’s financial aid situation and compliance.
    • Commuter students will receive a pro-rated credit to your dining account based on your balance of unused flex points. Due to campus operations remaining open, the proration amount cannot be determined until the end of the current semester which concludes on May 7th. The flex point credit may take up to 30 days from May 7th to appear on your dining account. If you have graduated from UofL or will no longer be attending, your credit will be issued from the Bursar’s office in the form of a check. If you have any additional questions concerning your meal plan, please respond send to campcard@louisville.edu.
    • Students graduating this semester who have no outstanding balances will be refunded a pro-rated portion of their housing and unused dining dollars. UofL does sincerely request any student who is able to do so to waive their refund and donate it to UofL here to help manage the significant financial impact of the coronavirus outbreak on the University
  • Dining Services: All UofL campus dining services are now carryout only, and meal plans can be used at all open locations. Check the Dining website here for updated hours, locations and information. See the above information about pro-rated accounts.
  • Bursar: Most staff is working remotely. Emailing bursar@louisville.edu is the recommended method at this time to address questions. If you are a student, ensure you include your name and UofL ID in the email, and it is highly encouraged you send the email from your UofL email account.  Find more details here.

  • Cardinal Cupboard: The Cardinal Cupboard is open by appointment only Monday - Friday, 9am - 5pm, closed weekends. Email ccfp@uoflelsb.org to set an appointment time. You will need to bring your Student ID card or know your ULink userID (ex: ccbird01). Great care is being taken to ensure that the cupboard stays clean with your health in mind. FINANCIALS - BASIC NEEDS SERVICES & EMERGENCY FUNDS

  • UofL's Emergency Fund: To assist University of Louisville students who encounter an unforeseen financial emergency or catastrophic event, the Bornwasser Student Emergency Fund was created to help students during a time of need stay in school and make progress towards a degree.
  • LouieConnect: This web-based application can connect you if you're in need of food, shelter or other basic needs. Link to the site here.
  • Food Bank Locator: Out of town? No problem. Visit this link to find your local food bank(s) name, address, phone number and website.
  • One Louisville COVID-19 Response Fund: Just launched, this fund will provide flexible funding resources for rental assistance, childcare assistance, transportation aid, food access, utility assistance, pharmaceutical needs and more through payments of $1,000 to eligible households. To be eligible, individuals/households must be residents of Jefferson County with an income at or below 100% of Area Median Income (AMI). Households seeking assistance should call their local Neighborhood Place location.
  • Service Worker Relief: If you have been laid off or had a significant reduction in work hours from a position in the restaurant industry as a result of the recent closures, there are a variety of resources to be aware of. Louisville Chef Edward Lee has opened a relief center out of his restaurant, 610 Magnolia, and there are several other options of note. Review the growing list of aid options.
  • Unemployment Insurance (Kentucky): The waiting period and work search requirements are waived while the state of emergency is in effect. The systems are struggling under the increased load, but keep trying. When the system is functioning, people can apply for unemployment benefits online or by phone, by calling 502-875-0442 or visiting the Kentucky Career’s Center unemployment benefits page here.

ACADEMIC ADVISING

  • Summer/Fall Registration: During this unprecedented time, advising holds for summer/fall registration will be lifted in order to ease registration. Open registration begins March 31 and follows this schedule. We strongly encourage you to take advantage of every opportunity to consult with your advisors remotely, whether by email or phone, before making plans for upcoming semesters. You can schedule an appointment with your advisor via CardSmart or contact your academic advising unit directly. (Contacts are listed here.) Advising appointments are essential to your success, as your advisor can assist you with addressing concerns in your classes, planning for your summer experiential learning opportunities, and understanding paths into/through your major and/or minor.
  • Spring Bursar Holds: The bursar will remove all Spring 2020 bursar holds making it easier for students to register and work through this uncertain time. However, if a student has a balance from a previous term, that bursar hold will remain.


MENTAL HEALTH & WELLNESS

  • Counseling Center: UofL counselors are no longer offering face-to-face services but will still be available for check-in and crisis assistance. Call 502-852-6585 from 8:30am - 4pm, and they'll assign a clinician to speak with you as soon as possible. Visit the Counseling Center for more information, including after hours emergency service options.
    • Check out these self-care tips and mental health apps that can help you manage stress and anxiety, relax, and move toward the life you want for yourself.
    • To find other mental health providers in Louisville and nationally, and access other mental health resources, visit the Counseling Center's list of community resources.
    • The Center has compiled other resources that are available to you beyond the walls of the counseling center.
  • Health Promotion: Access 10-minute guided meditations and mindfulness moments via live stream through the Health Promotion Instagram story (@Healthycards) and Facebook Monday thru Friday between 2 - 3pm.   • Intramurals:
    • Fitness classes: Join live during the week on Instagram (@ULSRC) or watch recordings at your convenience. A weekly schedule will be posted every Monday morning to include two or three classes every day such as Vinyasa Yoga, Yoga with HIIT, Cardio Blast, Hardcore Abs, Lower Body Burn and Full Body Circuit Training. All classes are designed for all fitness levels and will not require any equipment of your own.
    • Jogging/walking routes: Jogging/walking routes have been created around and near campus to range from one mile to nearly four and a half miles in length. There is also a link for you to plan jogging routes from wherever you are right now.
    • Online gaming: The Cardinal Gaming Club is providing online gaming options during the pandemic. Anyone who wishes to find online gaming partners will need to download the Discord program at discordapp.com or get the Discord app in your mobile device's app store. After installing, the Cardinal Gaming Discord server can be found at discord.gg/skF7iSP. Use the command "!confirm" to see the Cardinal Gaming chat channels set up for various games. CAMPUS SERVICES

  • Ambassador Peer Mentors: Ambassadors are continuing to mentor first-year students remotely. Keep checking your UofL email for updates, information and support from your peer mentor., and don't hesitate to reach out to them if you have questions or concerns they can help address.
  • Campus Health Services: If you feel unwell, or if you develop a temperature greater than 100.4 (F), cough or sore throat while in self-isolation, contact your local doctor or Campus Services  (502-852-6446 or 502-852-6479). A nurse or physician will be available to speak with you directly when you call. Call UofL Campus Health Services at 502-852-6446 or your nearest emergency room before going to any healthcare facility. This is to protect other patients and ensure that you are in isolation immediately upon arrival. Remember CALL FIRST!
  • Camps Bookstore: The UofL Bookstore is now offering free shipping on all items you may need. Additionally, they have provided a Bookstore FAQ regarding textbook rentals and selling back textbooks.
  • Cardinal Cupboard: The Cardinal Cupboard is open by appointment only Monday - Friday, 9am - 5pm, closed weekends. Email ccfp@uoflelsb.org to set an appointment time. You will need to bring your Student ID card or know your ULink userID (ex: ccbird01). Great care is being taken to ensure that the cupboard stays clean with your health in mind.   • Campus Housing: Residents should check your email for info and instructions, sent by Housing on March 18. Campus Housing is open for students who cannot return to your permanent residence, but you will need to complete the request form no later than March 29. Most staff are working remotely, but the main office remains open from 8:00 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. If you require immediate assistance and reside on campus, contact the front desk of your residence hall for 24/7 assistance. For students moving out, Enterprise Rent-A-Car company has reduced the minimum driver age to 18 and is waiving the “young renter fee” if you need to rent a car to return home, with more info about Enterprise here.   • Career Centers: The career centers at UofL stand ready to assist students as they prepare for full-time work, internships, co-ops, and part-time jobs.   University, Business, Engineering, and Law career centers have numerous online resources, as well as staff available to assist students remotely. Now is a great time to connect with your career center.
  • Cultural Center: Staff are working remotely and available from 9am – 5pm, Monday – Friday. If you need assistance, find staff contact info here. Coaching appointments will continue as scheduled, and you can make new appointments. Coaching participants should check your email for information regarding moving appointments to a virtual environment.
  • Dining Services: All UofL campus dining services are now carryout only, and meal plans can be used at all open locations. Check the Dining website here for updated hours, locations and information.
  • LGBT Center: Staff are working remotely but still available from 9am - 5pm, Monday - Friday. If you need assistance, you can find contact information for all staff members here, and additional resources listed here.
  • Metro College: Staff are working remotely via phone (502-852-2749) or computer during regular business hours. Current Metro College students may set a phone or Skype appointment and/or contact an MC Student Development Counselor through their My MC page.
  • Student Success Coordinators: Student Success Coordinators are no longer offering face-to-face services but remain available via email or phone. They can help you navigate the university and any obstacles that come up along the way. Worried about paying a bill? Struggling academically? Dealing with personal issues? If you have problems and aren’t sure where to turn, they'll help you through rough patches and come up with a plan to help you reach your goals. They’ll listen without judgement and offer assistance or refer you to someone best suited to your issue.
