    PDC logo - Taking it to the next levelThe Student Affairs Professional Development Committee (PDC) works to consistently empower and inspire StudentAffairs professionals to know themselves, their positions, their field, and their community. To this end the PDC was created to:

    • Orient new staff members to the philosophical orientation of Student Affairs and the theoretical basis for student personnel work
    • Advocate for resources to ensure uninterrupted development offerings
    • Build a sense of team
    • Recognize the exemplary accomplishments of staff members
    • Provide information and programming to enhance the operation/management of Student Affairs offices

    Signature Staff Development Events

    Each a day-long learning and networking experience featuring a prominent keynote speaker, workshops and content session

    • Past breakout sessions have included: “Microaggressions in Academia: Covert Racism and Its Impact on You”, “Workplace Wellness”, “Does What We Do Matter? Meaningful Assessment for the Everyday Practitioner”
    • Past keynote speakers have included: Dr. Telly Sellars, Coordinator of Counseling/Professor at Jefferson Community and Technical College; Tom Owen, University Archivist and former Metro Council member; and Dr. Fred Rhodes, Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students at Bellarmine University

    An hour-long workshop or content session on varying professional development topics during lunchtime

    • Past topics include: Social Media Engagement, Advising First Generation Students, OrgSync Training

    A half-day of training on topics including performance maintenance

    A day-long retreat for Classified Staff featuring guest speaker presentations and networking opportunities for staff

    A day-long workshop and training session for new staff to provide resources and help them become familiar with Student Affairs at UofL

    • Public recognition of those who have worked at UofL for 1 and 3 years
    • Superlatives including “Outstanding service to the UofL community”, “outstanding attitude”, and “outstanding behind the scenes support person” in each department of Student Affairs
