Is the water safe to drink? Should I bring my own water?

In many of the locations U of L is staying, there is potable water readily available. When in doubt, always ask.

If I want to snorkel, should I buy my own gear?  If I am certified to SCUBA dive, can I do that in Belize?

It is possible SCUBA diving may be offered as one of the community excursions. During the orientation sessions additional information will be shared.

How much money should I take and will 1 need Travelers' Checks?

You should plan to take about $200.00 in U.S. currency. Travelers' checks are not necessary but if you wish to take some amount for use in the airports, around the hotels,and in the larger cities , that would be O.K. Small bills of U.S. currency will be fine in the smaller communities.

Will I have to convert money into Belizean currency or can I use American dollars?

No exchange is needed- US Dollars are accepted everywhere.

Should I take any sort of formal clothes at all?

No. Take mostly light cotton clothes. One business casual outfit is required when touring the U.S. embassy and Prison.

What will the weather be like in March?

March weather is mostly dry with a few and infrequent showers possible by the dry easterly trade winds. The temperature usually varies between 75 to 81 degrees at this time of the year.

What are the baggage restrictions for the flight?

In general, you are entitled to check two bags - neither exceeding 63 inches (length+width+height), or weighing more than 70 pounds). However, due to requirements of the ISLP program you will be asked to carry program supplies as your second bag. You should limit your personal items to one checked bag. A third piece or "carry-on" bag may be brought aboard but its total dimensions are generally limited to less than 45 inches. You may bring an additional personal item such as a purse, briefcase, laptop computer, or backpack. Charges for excess, oversize, or overweight pieces are expensive.
