This course was developed to enhance the skills, knowledge, and abilities of the criminal investigator. The curriculum has specific investigative skill-based instruction designed to build on prior training and experience. Violent crime, sex offenders, and sexual perversions are presented from an investigative perspective. Instructional personnel deliver this professional development course with extensive field experience in the investigation of crimes committed by violent offenders. Designed to enhance an investigator’s skills and techniques, it is a course for operational personnel and their supervisors. The course is delivered with graphic descriptions, language, and discussion. Color 35mm slides, videotapes, high impact instruction, and actual case studies are used to illustrate and support the topics presented during this course. The very nature of the courses’ content is taken from the offenders who have been prosecuted for the crimes being discussed. The psychological and cultural worlds within which these individuals operate are openly presented.
Sex Crimes Investigation contains practical information intended to aid police personnel in the successful resolution of criminal investigations.

Southern Police Institute participants of our Sex Crimes courses are offered assigned housing in Bettie Johnson Hall on the Belknap Campus. Bettie Johnson Hall combines the convenience of its on-campus location with the comfort of apartment living. Each apartment comes fully furnished with modern kitchens and private bedrooms featuring individual phone service, computer and cable connections. Among the many facilities available within walking distance from Bettie Johnson Hall is modern gymnasium that includes weight-lifting and exercise rooms, and a Student Activity Center that houses a variety of restaurants that serve meals at reasonable prices. The Southern Police Institute and the University of Louisville are centrally located in Kentucky's largest city that offers many activities for our students.
