SPHIS Undergraduate student awarded FBI Director’s Community Leadership Award

Nico Thom, SPHIS undergraduate student, accepted the FBI Director’s Community Leadership Award in May 2020 on behalf of the nonprofit she founded, She Became. Nico was selected by the Louisville FBI field office for having demonstrated outstanding contributions to her local community through service and leadership.

Nico started She Became, a non-profit afterschool mentoring program, when she was 16 years old. The program encourages girls in grades three through five to use their voices and opinions to become confident leaders. Different careers are highlighted weekly as female professionals from across the Louisville community speak about their career paths, including FBI agents. Currently, over 300 girls participate in the program.

International Society for Pharmacoeconomics and Outcomes Research (ISPOR) Europe 2020 Conference Presentations

Naiya Patel, MPH, BDS, doctoral student and graduate research assistant in the Dept. of Health Management and Systems Sciences, will present the poster “Projecting the COVID-19 Weekly Death Rates and Hospitalizations for Jefferson County, Kentucky” during the virtual International Society for Pharmacoeconomics and Outcomes Research (ISPOR) Europe 2020 Conference scheduled  November 16-19, 2020. Since her research abstract was one of the top five highly scored student submissions, Naiya was invited to participate in a Virtual Student Research Spotlight to discuss her research in an elevator pitch style presentation. MSHA student named MUSC Health Administrative Fellow

Zoe Resmondo, second year student in the MS in Health Administration Program (MSHA) and graduate research assistant for the Center for Health Organization Transformation, was recently selected as a Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) Health Administrative Fellow, a one-year post-graduate training program. This highly selective fellowship in academic health system administration provides recent graduates the opportunity to enhance their conceptual knowledge base and skills. Zoe expects to begin the fellowship in the summer of 2021, shortly after she graduates from SPHIS.
