SPHIS faculty share expertise at the Society for Medial Decision Making

The Society for Medical Decision Making brings together experts from multiple disciplines to explore implementation and exchange ideas on how to improve the translation of research findings into better bedside care and health care utilization. SMDM members study topics like shared decision making, health-related quality of life, comparative effectiveness research, and patient engagement.

The organization’s annual conference is set for Oct. 18-21 in St. Louis, and the School of Public Health and Information Sciences is bringing expertise to the event. Dean Craig Blakely has organized a panel discussion for the opening session on the Affordable Care Act. Congressman John Yarmuth and health policy leaders are among the panelists.

Dr. Scott LaJoie is the conference co-chair and will give a poster presentation on a study that attempts to understand why college students choose to get or not get vaccinated against HPV. The research was conducted by an interdisciplinary team from UofL, including faculty from Arts & Science, Family Medicine, and the School of Public Health and Information Sciences.
