Postdoctoral associate accepts position at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health

Avonne Connor, Ph.D.

Congratulations to postdoctoral associate Avonne Connor, PhD. She has accepted a tenure track assistant professor position at the Bloomberg School of Public Health at Johns Hopkins University, beginning November 1, 2014. The emphasis of this position is global cancer or global, national, and local cancer disparities. Specific cancer focus includes those that are infection, tobacco, or obesity-associated.

Dr. Connor received her MPH and PhD at the UofL School of Public Health and Information Sciences. During her time as a postdoctoral associate in the Department of Epidemiology and Population Health, she specialized in breast cancer health disparities research. She has worked closely with researchers and collaborators involved with the Breast Cancer Health Disparities Study, which includes investigators from the University of Utah, University of Colorado, the Mexico Breast Cancer Study, and the San Francisco Bay Area Breast Cancer Study. To date, Dr. Connor has published six manuscripts in peer-reviewed journals and has presented her research at numerous national scientific conferences. Some of her research interests include: special populations (minorities, underserved), genetics and breast cancer risk, associations between obesity and breast cancer risk and survival, obesity and quality of life aspects among breast cancer survivors, and tobacco smoking and risk of breast cancer.
