National Public Health Week 2018

During National Public Health Week, SPHIS is hosting a series of events to focus attention on several issues and changes that must be addressed to create a healthier community. We invite the entire SPHIS community – students, faculty, staff, alumni, and partners –to join us for an exciting week of events.

  • Mon., April 2: Behavioral Health - Advocate for and promote well-being
  • Tues., April 3: Communicable Diseases - Learn about ways to prevent disease transmission
  • Wed., April 4: Environmental Health - Help to protect and maintain a healthy planet
  • Thurs., April 5: Injury and Violence Prevention - Learn about the effects of injury and violence on health
  • Fri., April 6: Ensuring the Right to Health - Advocate for everyone's right to a healthy life

TWEET-A-THON
Students, staff, faculty, alumni, and friends are encouraged to participate in National Public Health Week (NPHW) by tweeting on various public health topics.

Throughout the week, please tweet your messages promoting the NPHW themes using the hashtag #NPHW and tagging @ULSPHIS.

Contests
-- The tweet that has the most favorites by 3 p.m. on Friday, April 6, will win a prize!

-- @ULSPHIS will tweet out a trivia question Monday, April 2, through Friday, April 6 at noon. All those who answer correctly within a given timeframe will be entered to win some awesome SPHIS swag!

TOY & ACTIVITY DRIVE
National Public Health Week will mark the beginning of our annual drive. This year we will collect fun items to support the Boys and Girls Clubs (bubbles, sidewalk chalk, Frisbees, balls- soccer, football, basketball, and jump ropes).  Let’s help promote physical activity of students in our local clubs.

Drop-off items in the boxes available on Belknap and HSC.

SPHIS has partnered with Volunteer of America Mid-States to provide Free HIV Testing and literature on Belknap campus.

"THIS IS PUBLIC HEALTH" FAIR
SPHIS’s Office of Student Services and University Public Health partners will set up a tent on Belknap to distribute fruit and public health information to students, faculty, and staff. Stop by and say hi! 

Partners include the UofL Counseling Center, Eating Anxiety Treatment Laboratory, Health Promotion and Education, SPHIS Student Government Association, and Kentucky Public Health Association
