SPHIS welcomes two new faculty members
John A. Myers, MSPH, Ph.D. will join the Department of Bioinformatics and Biostatistics as an Assistant Professor (probationary) on July 1, 2007. Dr. Myers received his Ph.D. in Biostatistics - Decision Science from the University of Louisville Department of Bioinformatics and Biostatistics. He completed a Postdoctoral Fellowship appointment in the Department of Epidemiology and Public Health at the Yale University School of Medicine, and he has served two years as a Visiting Scholar in the Department of Bioinformatics and Biostatistics. In addition, Dr. Myers has teaching experience from the US Army, where he taught nuclear, biological, and chemical defense courses, as well as from Jefferson Community College and in the University of Louisville’s Family Physician Residency Program. Dr. Myers’s training and professional interests will be valuable in our collaborative efforts in Decision Science and Biostatistics. Dr. Myers will continue to teach and help develop courses in the Department of Bioinformatics and Biostatistics and to mentor students from all over the University of Louisville.
Kristina Zierold, PhD, has been appointed assistant professor in the Department of Epidemiology and Population Health effective July 1, 2007. Dr. Kristina Zierold received her PhD in epidemiology and environmental health sciences from the University of Illinois-Chicago School of Public Health. Upon finishing her degree, she was selected to become an Epidemic Intelligence Service Officer with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The EIS is a 2-year program where officers spend time involved in applied epidemiological investigations, outbreaks, and epidemiological research. Since leaving the CDC, Zierold has been working on issues surrounding children’s health.
