SPHIS welcomes new faculty member, Dr. Rachel Neal
Rachel Neal, PhD, joined the Department of Environmental and Occupational Health Sciences as Assistant Professor on January 1st, but did not move to Louisville until this month. She earned her Bachelor of Science and PhD in Chemistry at the University of Missouri-Rolla. She completed her postdoctoral studies at the National Eye Institute/National Institutes of Health and was formerly an Assistant Research Professor and Director of the Mass Spectrometry and Proteomics Facility at Montana State University.
Dr. Neal has served on several graduate committees, as a Toxicology editorial board member and as a reviewer for Experimental Eye Research and Current Eye Research. Her research interests include the impact of childhood environmental toxicant exposures on vascular and sensory function in adults, lead and microbial contaminants in water, alterations in protein post-translational modifications as a function of age and
tissue spatial location, and plasma biomarkers of neurodegeneration/neurotoxicity.
Dr. Neal’s teaching experience includes Experimental Chemistry for Middle and High School Teachers and Introductory Mass Spectrometry online courses, and various short courses in the Master of Science, Science Education program at Montana State University. She has taught courses at NIH Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology and the University of Missouri, and guest lectured at the University of Maryland.
Dr. Neal's office and lab are located in the MDR building, Room 204. She will also have shared space in the new building. Please join us in welcoming Dr. Neal to the university and SPHIS.
