SPHIS supports HIV/AIDS awareness
Throughout September, the School of Public Health and Information Sciences (SPHIS) Student Government Association (SGA) sponsored a school-wide effort to support the 2007 Louisville AIDS Walk. Students, staff, and faculty were encouraged to sign-up online to participate on the SPHIS team and to support a series of fundraising activities. In total, SPHIS raised $4,361 for the Louisville AIDS Walk Organization.
During the week of September 24th -28th, SGA hosted an HIV/AIDS Awareness Week on the Health Sciences Campus. Two events were held to raise money in support of the Louisville AIDS walk. The SGA hosted a bake sale on Tuesday, September 25th a and a chili cook-off on Thursday, September 27th.
On Sunday, September 30th, the 2007 Louisville AIDS Walk was held downtown on the Belvedere. SPHIS team members who showed up to walk for the cause included 20 SPHIS students and 1 faculty member. Many team members wore their SPHIS 2007 AIDS Walk T-shirts that were designed by UL graphic artist Laurel Harper, which were sold during the week prior to the walk.
As a team, the school ranked third in overall fundraising, just beating the Louisville Metro Public Health and Wellness Department, and received the top University Team Award.
The SPHIS SGA would like to thank all of the SPHIS students, faculty, and staff members as well as those on the entire Health Sciences Campus for supporting the 2007 Louisville AIDS Walk. For more information on this event, please contact Jennifer M. Howard at jmhowa11@louisville.edu.
