SPHIS participates in farmers’ market workshop
Melissa Schreck, Assistant Director, External Affairs was invited to participate in a panel discussion during the Kentucky Department of Agriculture Farmers’ Market Training Program held at UofL on Saturday, Mar. 12. Attendees included market managers and producers from across Kentucky.
Ms. Schreck, who is the Market Manager for the Gray Street Farmers’ Market (GSFM), shared lessons learned from the GSFM, which included the importance of collaboration, data collection strategies, and the EBT/Debit program. Josh Jennings, Center for Health Equity, LMPHW, was also a panelist. He discussed the unique challenges that urban farmers‘ markets face and how local initiatives, such as a mobile market, have been implemented to improve access to locally grown produce.
