SPHIS faculty elected to professional service positions
Richard Baumgartner, PhD
Chair and Professor, Department of Epidemiology and Population Health
Dr. Baumgartner has been elected to serve on the Board of Directors of the American College of Epidemiology for a three-year term. He is currently a Fellow of the ACE and serves as a member of the Ethics Committee. The ACE was incorporated in 1979 to develop criteria for professional recognition of epidemiologists and to address their professional concerns. Susmita Datta, PhD
Professor, Department of Bioinformatics and Biostatistics
Dr. Datta has been elected to serve on the American Statistical Association’s Scientific and Public Affairs Advisory Committee for a two-year term. The committee’s charge is to: consider public policy issues which affect the statistical community or to which statisticians can contribute; recommend policies to the ASA Board of Directors; and serve as a liaison between ASA and other statistical experts, professional and governmental organizations, and the media on these issues.
Dr. Datta has also been elected as a Representative-at-Large for the Caucus for Women in Statistics for the 2011-12 term. The mission of the caucus is to foster opportunities for the education, employment and advancement of women in statistics; to increase the recruitment of women into the statistics profession; and to provide a venue for mentorship and networking among professionals of statistics, particularly among women.
