The Department of Bioinformatics and Biostatistics co-sponsored the CGeMM meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 19 . The guest speaker, Glen Satten, PhD, presented "Controlling Confounding in (Genetic) Case-Control Studies Using the Stratification Score." Dr. Satten is in the Senior Biomedical Research Service at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and a Senior Scientist in the CDC’s Maternal and Infant Health Branch Division of Reproductive Health.
On Friday, Jan. 22, 2011 Christopher Kimmer, PhD, Information Technology/CECS, gave an overview of the Cardinal Research Cluster and how to use it for biostatistics and bioinformatics. The Cardinal Research Cluster (CRC) is a relatively new supercomputer at UofL, which is freely available to faculty and their students. On Tuesday, April 19, 2011, Dr. Stanley Pounds, from the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, presented "Reordering Data Analysis Operations Improves Statistical Accuracy for Copy Number Analysis of Tumors" (abstract).
