MPH Students, Ma’isah Edwards and Janelle Lefebvre, to present at the Pediatric Academic Societies’ Annual Meeting
Second-year MPH students, Ma'isah Edwards and Janelle Lefebvre, have had an abstract accepted for poster presentation at the 2008 Pediatric Academic Societies’ Annual Meeting in Honolulu, Hawaii, May 3 - 6. Their poster, "Understanding the Impact of Asthma Among School-Aged Children: A Pilot Study Conducted at One Jefferson County Public Middle School," describes work completed at Lassiter Middle School as part of a collaborative effort spearheaded by the Partnership for a Green City.
Investigating the impact asthma has on school-aged children was first proposed by Dwayne Roberts, principal at Lassiter, and supported by Dr. David Wicks, coordinator for Environmental Education at Jefferson County Public Schools. The initiative aims to identify interventions that may improve student health and result in improved attendance and classroom achievement. This project is one example of how faculty and students at the School of Public Health and Information Sciences are committed to service activities that benefit the health of our community.
Congratulations to Ma'isah and Janelle for their contributions to this project and their successful submission to this prestigious meeting.
