This article about the Town Hall Meeting appeared in the latest edition of Health Matters, a Louisville Metro Department of Public Health and Wellness publication.

PBS Health Series to Feature Louisville

A ground-breaking Public Broadcasting System documentary series, Unnatural Causes, explores how the social conditions in which Americans are born, live, and work profoundly effect health and longevity, even more than medical care, behavior, or genes.

The centerpiece of the four part series is an hour-long opening episode filmed in Louisville.

The lives of Jim Taylor, CEO of University Hospital; Tondra Young, a medical technician and lab supervisor; Corey Anderson, a maintenance worker, and Mary Turner of the Portland neighborhood illustrate how social class shapes access to power, resources, and opportunity, all of which effect our health and life expectancy.

The segment also features interviews with Metro Public Health and Wellness Director Dr. Adewale Troutman and the opening of the Center for Health Equity in Louisville.

This episode will air on the Kentucky Educational Network (KET) on Thursday, March 27 at 10:00 p.m.  The other three episodes will air on successive Thursdays.

The Metro Public Health and Wellness Department invites you to attend a preview of the series and a public town hall meeting on Thursday March 20 at 5:30 p.m. at the Kentucky Center for the Performing Arts at 501 W. Main Street.

"We hope to use this event as a kick-off to formulate community initiatives to make all the citizens of Louisville healthier," said Metro Public Health and Wellness Director Dr. Adewale Troutman.  "We encourage the general public as well as all of our community partners to join us at the Center for the Arts on March 20."
