Faculty, students to present at APHA Annual Meeting
The American Public Health Association 137th Annual Meeting & Exposition will be held in Philadelphia, PA, Nov. 7 - 11. The following faculty and students will be presenting.
SPHIS faculty will participate in the oral session, “Who knew? The health effects of cigarette smoke are worse than we thought” on Wednesday, Nov. 11 at 10:30 AM. Richard Wilson, DHSc, MPH, Chair, and Scott LaJoie, Assistant Professor, Department of Health Promotion and Behavioral Sciences, along with Bob Jacobs, PhD, Professor, Department of Environmental and Occupational Health Sciences and Lee Ridner, PhD, School of Nursing, will present “Asthma and heart attack incidence surrounding a no smoking ordinance.”
John Myers, PhD, Department of Bioinformatics and Biostatistics, and School of Nursing collaborators, Barbara Speck, PhD and Valerie McCarthy, will discuss "Increasing rates of physical activity assessment and counseling of clients among Kentucky advanced registered nurse practitioners (ARNPs)" at the roundtable session on the “Perspectives in Physical Activity and Health” scheduled Monday, Nov. 9 at 12:30 PM.
David Tollerud, MD, MPH, Chair, Department of Environmental and Occupational Health Sciences, will participate in the session, “National Children’s Study: Landmark Epidemiologic Study of Environment and Child Health” on Monday, Nov. 9 at 12:30 PM. Dr. Tollerud will present "Environmental Assessments and Biological Specimen/Biobank Activities” as part of the panel discussion.
Bob Jacobs, PhD, Professor, Department of Environmental and Occupational Health Sciences, and Bob Esterhay, MD, Chair, and Jeff Potash, PhD, Assistant Professor (Gratis), Department of Health Management and Systems Sciences, will present "Integrating systems thinking as a component of the MPH culminating experience" on Monday, Nov. 9 at 2:30 PM. Dr. Jacobs will also participate in the session, “Climate Change and Public Health” on Tuesday, Nov. 10 at 8:30 AM, presenting “Development of a climate action plan for metro Louisville, KY."
Caroline Chan, PhD candidate, was selected to present the poster, "Paducah Gaseous Diffusion Plant mortality study: Job title analysis" on Nov. 9 at 2:30 PM during the Occupational Health and Safety Posters - Industrial Hygiene session.
William Willis, a 2009 MPH graduate, will present the poster, “Obtaining Miner and Mine Operator Participation in a Knowledge, Attitudes and Practices Survey of Kentucky Coal Miners,” during the 2009 Delta Omega poster session on Monday, Nov. 9 at 10:30 AM. Mr. Willis was one of 19 students from schools and programs of public health selected to present during the Annual Student Poster Session sponsored by the Delta Omega Honorary Society in Public Health.
Ray Yeager, an MPH student with an EOHS concentration, will present his poster during the “Water, Ethics and Public Health” session scheduled Wednesday, Nov. 11 at 8:30 AM.
