Dr. Richard Kerber receives funding for breast cancer research
Richard Kerber, PhD, Associate Professor in the Department of Epidemiology and Population Health, has recently been awarded an institutional transfer of funding for his project "Genetic Characterization of Breast Cancer Risk in Families." The study, funded by Susan G. Komen for the Cure, is a genome-wide association study of breast cancer susceptibility. The approach is novel because it focuses on families at especially high risk for breast cancer, which gives the researchers greater power to discover rare genetic variants with potentially larger effects on risk than population-based studies.
