Gary Hoyle, PhD, was recognized as a University Scholar during the university’s Fall 2008 Celebration of Faculty Excellence on Sept. 16. Dr. Hoyle came to UofL in August of 2007 as a professor in the Department of Environmental and Occupational Health Sciences. His research focuses on environmental and occupational lung diseases. Dr. Hoyle has had continuous extramural research funding from federal sources — including the National Institutes of Health — for 14 years. He is the recent recipient of a $1.9 million grant from the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences to develop therapies for lung injury caused by chlorine gas exposure.
