DEHS participates in local health fair serving local Hispanics
Department of Environmental and Occupational Health Sciences assistant professor, Irma Ramos, MD, and colleagues participated in the annual health fair at the Americana Community Center as part of Center for Environmental Genomics and Integrative Biology Community Outreach and Educational Core. The team provided education on diabetes, metabolic syndrome, and cardiovascular diseases in a presentation and written materials in Spanish, together with a list of clinics providing health services on the area. The goal of these efforts is to provide health education and referrals to underserved Hispanics attending the health fair. Behavior modification and prevention of complications and diseases for those with risk factors are a key component of their program.
