Baumgartner and Rai named endowed chairs, James Graham Brown Cancer Center
Effective Oct. 1, 2009, two professors in the School of Public Health and Information Sciences have been appointed as endowed chairs in the James Graham Brown Cancer Center, further strengthening collaboration between physicians and researchers on the Health Sciences Center.
Kathy B. Baumgartner, PhD, Acting Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs, and Associate Professor, Department of Epidemiology and Population Health, was appointed to the Henry Vogt Professorship in Cancer Prevention and Control, which was established through a gift from the Henry Vogt Foundation and matching funds from Kentucky’s Research Challenge Trust Fund “Bucks for Brains” program. In this position, Dr. Baumgartner will contribute significantly to the funding and publication of cancer epidemiology research.
Shesh N. Rai, PhD, Associate Professor, Department of Bioinformatics and Biostatistics, will be the Wendell Cherry Chair in Clinical Trial Research, which was created with a gift from Mrs. Dorothy Cherry and matching funds from “Bucks for Brains” program. As chair, Dr. Rai will develop the biostatistical core in the Brown Cancer Center, increasing the number and quality of cancer clinical trials and research protocols.
