Background

Ph. D. (1988), Statistics and Probability, Michigan State University, East Lansing.
M. Stat. (1985), Mathematical Statistics and Probability, Indian Statistical Institute, Calcutta.
B. Stat. (1983), Statistics, Indian Statistical Institute, Calcutta.

I joined the Department of Bioinformatics & Biostatistics as a tenured full professor in July of 2005. Prior to that, I was in the Statistics department at the University of Georgia where I started my academic career as an assistant professor in 1988 and moved through the ranks attaining full professorship in 1998. Over the years I have written over seventy research papers in various peer reviewed Statistics & Biostatistics journals. For the last several years I have been collaborating with Dr. Glen Satten and other statisticians and scientists at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta. Currently, I am collaborating with Susan Harkema  at U of L on Spinal Cord Injury Research.  I am also conducting research in statistical methodologies that is supported by the National Science Foundation and the National Security Agency.

Research Interests

My research interests include various topics in Statistics and Biostatistics such as Bioinformatics, Bootstrap Methods, Compound Decision Problems, Empirical Bayes Methods, Nonparametric Function Estimation, Statistical Genetics, Survival Data Analysis, Time Series Analysis etc. At present, I am working on multistage data that are an important special case of multivariate survival or event time data. I am interested in nonparametric and semiparametric inference procedures for such multistage models. I am also interested in nonparametric inference procedures for marginal effects in clustered data, such as those arise in longitudinal studies. In the area of Bioinformatics, I am interested in developing novel statistical methods for gene expression and proteomic data.

Teaching Activities

I am scheduled to teach "Advanced Statistical Inference" in the Fall of 2007. It is a core course designed for the Biostatistics concentration PhD program.
