The Department of Health Promotion and Behavioral Sciences emphasizes teaching, research and community service related to influencing health-related behavior as well as the economic, environmental, organizational and policy supports necessary for sustained long-term health improvement. We are committed to helping our students address to the social determinants of health, health disparities, and health equity.

The MPH concentration in Health Promotion and Behavioral Sciences develops students who are prepared for working in public health or who may transfer the skills to a range of other settings. Students who complete this program are eligible to apply for PhD degree programs in this and other schools.

The specialization in Health Promotion within the PhD in Public Health Sciences program is open to a select group of students who are committed to developing knowledge and skills in areas related to the social determinants of health, health disparities and health equity.  Students who complete this program will be suited to positions in academia as well as public health-related enterprises.
