ME 667 Solar Energy Applications has been taught in the Mechanical Engineering Department since Spring Semester 2003. The course begins with an introduction to global climate change and energy resource issues, and summarizes heat transfer principles related to collection of solar energy. The focus of the course is on solar thermal applications, including both active and passive strategies for space and water heating, process heating and power generation. The course is design-oriented, and all students are expected to complete a design project involving thermal and economic performance predictions for a specific solar application.
