Distinguished Diversity Enhancement Award (Faculty and Staff Award)

Speed School is proud to announce the establishment of the Distinguished Diversity Enhancement Award, bestowed annually upon a Speed School faculty or staff individual who actively promotes inclusive excellence. The recipient contributes to and enhances the environment of Speed School while demonstrating an exceptional understanding of diversity and inclusiveness beyond his/her regular duties.

Nominees considered for this award should meet one or more of the following:

  • Supports educational mission of the school by providing:
    • ­Commitment to Diversity & Inclusion in the field of Engineering
    • ­Positive interactions within the Engineering field
    • ­Contributions to the Speed School diversity programming
    • ­Mentorship to Speed students and/or student organizations
    • ­Contributions to enhance diversity and inclusiveness within Engineering
  • Extends mentorship/career opportunities for underrepresented Speed School students (underrepresented minorities, females, LGBT community)
  • Must be a Speed School faculty/staff

Leadership Through Inclusion Alumni Award

Speed School is proud to announce the establishment of the Leadership Through Inclusion Alumni Award bestowed annually upon a Speed School alum who actively promotes inclusive excellence. The recipient contributes to and enhances the field of engineering while demonstrating an exceptional understanding of diversity and inclusiveness beyond his/her regular duties.

Nominees considered for this award should meet one or more of the following:

  • Supports educational mission of the school by providing:
    • ­Commitment to Diversity & Inclusion in the field of Engineering
    • ­Positive interactions within the Engineering field
    • ­Contributions to the Speed School diversity programming
    • ­Mentorship to Speed students and/or student organizations
    • ­Contributions to enhance diversity and inclusiveness within Engineering
  • Extends mentorship/career opportunities for underrepresented Speed School students (underrepresented minorities, females, LGBT community)
  • Must be a Speed School graduate

Diversity & Inclusion Visionary Award

This award will be presented for the first time in fall 2017 to a student who has significantly contributed to creating a campus culture of diversity and inclusion. The recipient demonstrates an ability to educate the engineering and campus communities about diversity and inclusion issues and build coalitions across differences.

Nominees considered for this award should meet one or more of the following:

  • Candidates must be current Speed School student.
  • Candidates must have attended Speed School for a minimum of one full semester during the award year.
  • Candidates must demonstrate commitment to academic achievement with a cumulative 2.5 GPA or above.
  • Candidates must be considered in good standing with the University.
  • Candidates should demonstrate leadership that encourages and speaks to the Speed School strategic goal of Diversity and Opportunity:
    “Increase the percentage of underrepresented students and faculty in the school, with particular focus on attracting a more diverse population of races and ethnicities, women, and first generation college students. Enhance the role and impact of student groups and professional societies to encourage lifelong learning and service.”
