Usher to serve as acting dean

Dr. John S. Usher, associate dean for administration, planning and faculty affairs, has been selected to serve as acting dean beginning July 1. Usher will fill the void while current dean, Neville G. Pinto, steps into the role of Interim Executive Vice President and University Provost at UofL

Usher has been a faculty member at UofL's Speed School for more than 30 years in the Department of Industrial Engineering. He served as department chair from 2005 to 2012. He was recognized by the university in 2001 with its Distinguished Teaching Professor Award for his excellence in the classroom.

A renowned researcher, with more than $8 million in funded research, Usher has more than 100 papers and other publications to his credit.

A native of Louisville, Usher received his bachelor's and master's degrees from UofL.

"I appreciate Dr. Usher stepping up to fill this vital position, and I know Speed is in great hands during Dr. Pinto’s absence. I hope you’ll join me in congratulating Dr. Usher and wishing him well in this new role," said Shirley C. Willihnganz, Executive Vice President and University Provost.
