Dr. Zhihui Sun Made Acting Chair of the Civil & Environmental Engineering Department

Zhihui SunEffective July 1st, Dr. Zhihui Sun became the acting chair of the Civil & Environmental Engineering Department. Sun began her career at the University in the Fall of 2005 as a tenure track professor, now a full professor, where she has focused her research and educational coursework on fundamental structural courses, with a focus on construction materials, early-age properties of concrete, non-destructive testing, microstructure, and numerical simulation. While serving as chair, Sun has a variety of ideas for how to serve the CEE community that she hopes to implement in an effort to build upon the continued success of the program.

Sun says of her goals that she hopes, “to move ahead with the established research program and expand the research profile by helping and encouraging junior faculty members; to train our undergraduate and graduate students with up-to-date knowledge and skills to better serve our community; to create a better learning environment for students with improved facility; and to build strong ties among alumni, employers, students, and advisory board with constituency communications.”

Not only does Sun look forward to her interim leadership, but she is happy to have the chance to give back. She admits of her co-workers in the department, “I enjoy working with my wonderful colleagues. We have a very nice team of faculty and staff, who always put our students in their first consideration. Everyone is nice, helpful, and cooperative, which make running a department a team effort.”
