Society of Women Engineers attends national conference; brings home awards
Eleven UofL Society of Women Engineers (SWE) members attended the annual conference recently and brought home two awards. The theme of the conference, held in Long Beach, Cal., Oct. 15 - 18 was "Women Advancing the World of Technology."
The Outstanding Collegiate Section Silver Level award was shared among UofL, Penn State and others. Louisville also received the Membership Retention Program Award.
Conference attendees went to the SWE Career Fair which had over 200 leading companies and universities from all over the U.S. Some UofL members received on-site interviews. Members attended professional development seminars, regional business meetings, receptions, and celebrations of women in engineering.
Kelly Nicholson said, "The most special thing about the SWE Annual Conference is the networking that takes place. For instance, I grabbed my boxed lunch and sat down along a wall at the career fair last year and suddenly I was sharing lunch with a research manager from Boeing."
Nicholson also had the opportunity to have breakfast with Cornell Materials Science Professor. "It's amazing to have these incredible women in one spot and really inspiring for collegiate." she said.
UofL students were able to attend the conference celebrating SWE's 60th Anniversary with help of generous engineering departments, SGA, SSSC, the minority fund, and SWE fundraising.
