Dr. J.M. Zurada, Engineering Faculty Elected to Chair IEEE Periodicals Acitivities
J. B. Speed School of Engineering faculty, Dr. Jacek M. Zurada, has been elected by IEEE Societies Presidents and Division Directors to chair the IEEE Periodicals Committee in 2010-11, and to chair the IEEE Periodicals Review Committee in 2012-13. As Committees Chair will lead efforts to uphold high standards of the Institute’s publications, advise on the quality and timeliness of existing periodicals, and approve new titles.
With over 350,000 members, the Institute is the largest professional organization in the world, and publishes over 140 top periodicals in Electrical and Computer Engineering. It holds Copyrights for 2.5mln papers ranging on anything from power generation and transmission technologies through computer chip design, information theory, control systems to i-phones and electronic hardware and software that does computing, communications and control. IEEE-published papers are available on the portal called IEEE Xplore . UofL's Libraries subscribe to IEEE Electronic Library.
Dr. Zurada, Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at UofL also serves as Distinguished University Scholar. He was President of IEEE Computational Intelligence Society in 2004-05 and Editor-in-Chief of IEEE Transactions on Neural Networks. He has authored or co-authored over 350 publications, including several books in the field of neural networks and their applications to language understanding, biomedicine and image processing. Dr Zurada holds the membership of the Polish Academy of Science and two honorary doctorates from Chinese universities.
Dr. Zurada will held two seminars for UofL/Speed faculty and especially for PhD students on the exciting world of technical publishing and writing papers.
