This state of the art facility was established in 1996-97
using a $150,000 University of Louisville instructional
infrastructure grant, Mechanical Engineering Department
research release funds, and corporate gifts. Since then,another
$100,000 has been invested in updated hardware and software.
The Design Studio supports research and instruction in computer-aided
design and analysis. It consists of an 18 station instructional
facility, a walk-in microcomputer laboratory, and a breakout
area for use by design teams. Hardware includes:
The Design Studio software suite includes Microsoft Office
2000 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Project, etc.), Microsoft
Developer Studio 6.0 (Visual Basic, Visual C++, Visual J++, etc.),
Microsoft FORTRAN Powerstation 4.0, MathCad 7.0, Maple V, KIDASA Milestones 5.1,
Netscape Navigator 6.0, Paint Shop Pro, ANSYS 5.5, I-DEAS Master Series 7.0,
MSC Nastran V70.7, and MSC PATRAN 8.5.
The Design Studio supports supports both research and
instruction in courses throughout the Mechanical Engineering
curriculum, including the CAE sequence ME 180, 280 and 380.
