IE Awarded Funds for RFID Lab

IE Awarded Funds for RFID LabDr. Sunderesh Heragu scored another impressive project for the Department of Industrial Engineering, $1.2 Million to establish The RFID Tech Center.  The new center will develop GPS and RFID technologies to support the mission of the U.S. Department of Defense which requires the largest and most complex logistics and distribution system in the world.  In order to better support the DOD mission, the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) continually seeks to reduce costs and improve delivery times to its customers in the field. A new research center at the University of Louisville will aim to develop new technologies and systems to achieve these goals. Two key technologies are becoming increasingly important in many logistical operations: radio frequency identification (RFID) and Global Positioning Systems (GPS) - The RFID Tech Center will focus on the development of next generation models and algorithms to design, operate and manage the logistical system efficiently and effectively using the continuously generated data from these two technologies.
