The seminar is free and open to the public. A reception and social time begins at 3:00 p.m., Seminar at 3:30 p.m.


The presentation will highlight the type of systems used in a large utility company such as the Louisville Water Company.  It shows the background and continuous learning to create, operate and manage such systems. There will be some demos some of systems such as those using GIS and field user work support.


Kevin M. Kastensmidt is a University of Louisville graduate with a BS in Engineering Mathematics and Computer Science (1995) and a Master of Engineering in Computer Engineering and Computer Science (2011). Kevin’s experience includes the following:

  • More than 10 years in IT management including providing strategic planning and direction, budget preparation and execution, personnel supervision and evaluation, vendor relations, contract management, and project management.
  • Managed and supported server and end user environments with over 200 physical and virtual servers combined and over 350 physical and virtual end-user systems, delivering service to over 400 employees and contractors.
  • Supervised management and deployment of over 400 mobile devices.
  • Implemented and supported Oracle E-Business Suite and PeopleSoft systems
  • Responsible for hardware and software licensing and support contracts including Oracle, Microsoft, and EMC.
  • Supervised wired and wireless Cisco network expansion and VPN improvements
  • Managed migration from physical to virtual server infrastructure utilizing VMware and Oracle Virtual Machine.
  • Oversee Disaster Recovery efforts to ensure system availability
  • Plan and design One Water shared IT infrastructure collaboration between Louisville Water Company and Metropolitan Sewer District.
