Copyright and Publication Agreements: Who owns your work?

Speaker: Dwayne K. Buttler, J.D.

Abstract: Copyright automatically protects nearly all publications created by researchers and scholars. Agreements with publishers typically transfer copyright in those publications to the publisher, thereby transferring decisions about how other researchers and scholars might access and use your publications to the publisher. Managing copyright and understanding publication agreements is central to managing your rights and fundamental to controlling how you and others might disseminate and use your publications today and well into the future. This conversation is about publications, ownership, and managing copyright.
