Two presentations this Friday
“Submarine Artic Operations”
Speaker: Mr. Barry Campbell, MENG Alumni
Bio:
Mr. Campbell was in the first class to graduate from the department with a Meng degree in 1972. He will give a talk and a slide presentation with glimpses into his career and experiences as a MENG graduate of our department. He has been to the North Pole 15 times and in charge of 7 floating Ice Stations to name just a few of his experiences as an engineer.
“MSEC: Ensemble method for classifying streaming data”
Speaker: Joung Woo Ryu, PhD
Abstract:
Streaming data is continuous and an infinite sequence of data. It is ubiquitous today and it is often a challenging task to store, analyze and visualize such rapidly growing volumes of data. In particular, the classification problem in streaming data requires to find changes in data distribution and to adapt a classification model more quickly to these changes. The application of classification techniques to streaming data can vary from astronomical and geophysical applications to real-time decision support in business and industrial applications. This presentation introduces the ensemble approach for the classification problem in streaming data, and shows preliminary results of a new ensemble method, MSEC (Misclassified Streaming data-base Ensemble Classifier) , in our research.
Bio:
He received the B.E., M.E. and Ph.D degrees in Computer Engineering from the Department of Computing from Soongsil University, South Korea. He worked as a researcher at the Robot Research Department in the Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI) in South Korea. He is currently a visiting scholar (post-doctoral research) in the CECS department.
