The Kentucky Junior Science and Humanities Symposium (KJSHS)

Director: Anup Kumar, Professor CECS Department

Co-Director: Andy Kemp, Male High School

The Kentucky Junior Science and Humanities symposium was held on Monday February 16, 2009 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel near the airport.  The Kentucky Junior Science and Humanities Symposium provides a forum for oral presentations of creative scientific activities by some of the state's best and brightest high school students. For this symposium high school students first submit their research papers which are then reviewed by the University of Louisville faculty.  Top twenty one papers were selected to be presented at the symposium. The KJSHS is part of a national competition (see www.jshs.org), and the top 3 winners go on to make presentations at the national level.  This year the national conference is in Colorado Springs, Colorado from April 29-May 3, 2009. The top 5 winners of KJSHS are offered Trustees Scholarships to U of L.  The CECS faculty members including Drs. Ahmed Desoky, Ming Ouyang, Tim Hardin, a recent CSE graduate Dr. Iyad Alkhyat and graduate student Yehia Khalil participated in reviewing the papers submitted to the symposium. Drs. Ahmed Desoky, Ming Ouyang and Iyad Alkhyat also spent several hours judging the oral presentations and selecting the top five winners of the symposium with several other judges.
