Graduate Certificate in Data Mining

Online Option Available in addition to regular classes.

The CECS department at the University of Louisville is offering a graduate level Certificate in Data Mining (DM). The requirements can be completed online within a 12 month period. On campus students can enroll in the DM certificate program with the same requirements.

Program Objectives: To address the need for trained professionals in the interdisciplinary field of data mining, the Department of Computer Engineering and Computer Science (CECS) faculty developed a certificate program in data mining. The certificate consists of 18 hours, with two required courses from CECS, two required courses from Mathematics, and two elective courses selected from a list of relevant elective courses in CECS and Mathematics.

Students enrolled in degree-seeking programs in addition to the non-degree certificate program can apply for federal financial aid. Students only enrolled in the non-degree certificate programs are not eligible to receive federal aid. For more information contact the UofL Financial Aid Office.

Course Offerings

The online courses are offered so that students can complete the certificate program in a 12-month period. Typically two courses are offered online each semester. However, a variety of courses are available on campus for students in the Louisville area.

To check the online courses offered for a particular semester, please visit the University Schedule of classes for "Computer Engr & Computer Sci" and make sure the following items are selected in the drop-down boxes:

  • The Semester of interest
  • Select Computer Engr and Computer Sci as Subject
  • Select Distance Education as Location and hit Search
  • Pick the appropriate Data Mining Class

Admission Requirements

For continuing studies as non-degree student:

  • Undergraduate Degree in technically related field or technical experience
  • Knowledge of calculus
  • $60 application fee

For degree status (those who want to continue for MS or Ph. D)
Additional Requirements:

  • GRE score
  • Two letters of recommendation

Cost: The University of Louisville offers the same fee for all Distance learning students regardless of their geographic location. For fees, please visit University of Louisville's Bursar Office.
