About CECS

The Computer Engineering and Computer Science (CECS) department has always been forward looking and adapting to change with no compromise for excellence. Former names of the department include AMACS and EMACS. This department is proud of its alumni and the Louisville community and the Commonwealth of Kentucky for their support. Our alumni have been successful in large corporation, entrepreneurial endeavors and in pursuing academic and research careers.

CECS has over 30 years of history in offering Computer Engineering and Computer Science education. The department is unique in offering programs combining Computer Engineering and Computer Science with a very large number of graduate students. The Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) doctoral program is highly regarded by many ranking metrics and has over 50 students at this time.

The Bachelor of Science and Master of Engineering programs are accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET, http://www.abet.org.

The Bachelor of Science degree is also accredited by the Computer Accreditation Commission of ABET, http://www.abet.org.

Our new initiatives include Graduate Certificates in 1) Data Mining and 2) Network and Information Security -- both certificates and MSCS are also available online.

The department has research laboratories involved in areas such as Data Mining, Mobile and Distributed Software Systems, Intelligent Systems, Database, Information Security, Visualization, and Multimedia. Faculty research is supported by NSF, DHS, ONR, KSEF, NASA, FAA and several industrial partnerships.

We have two exciting issues to share with you; 1) we have now moved the Duthie Center for Engineering (renovated Kersey Library building) and have modern labs and offices, 2) our BS degree in "CECS" is now accredirted as both "Computer Engineering" and "Computer Science" a distinction that very few universities achieve.
